Experience Design

Kohler Company

Background:

Since 1873, Kohler Co. has been an innovator in manufacturing across plumbing, furniture, cabinetry, tile, engines, generators, and more. With over 35,000 associates worldwide, Kohler Co. believes in creating a workplace where all its associates can feel a sense of value, purpose, and belonging.

Engagement Needs:

Kohler Co. knows that a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion leads to more innovation and better teams.

In addition to their internal initiatives, including volunteering and Business Resource Groups, Kohler Co. seeks external opportunities to share their DEI efforts and highlight themselves as an employer of choice. To that end, Kohler Co. hired NEWaukee as an experience design partner to promote their employer brand in the greater Milwaukee region.

Key Insights:

NEWaukee tailors every new strategy, program, or initiative to each clients’ needs. After a series of conversations with Kohler Co. leaders in Human Resources and Marketing, NEWaukee discovered the following key insights:

• Candidates in the Greater Milwaukee region did not have the employer brand mindshare to understand that Kohler is within a commutable distance.

• The proposed program should provide a forum both for the company to connect to quality candidates for open positions, as well as create community connection points for current company employees.

• In the wake of the #MeToo movement and based on research from the McKinsey Women in the Workplace report, it became apparent that there needed to be a conversation and concerted effort around the lack of women represented in leadership roles throughout the region.

Here’s What Working with NEWaukee Can Do:

NEWaukee designed, marketed, and executed The Shift, a quarterly, female-focused speaker series. The program is centered around defining and fueling women’s career trajectories. It explores topics around achieving gender parity in the workplace and highlights intergenerational stories of female leadership. The program format included keynote speakers and panel discussions, as well as an open mic for audience members to share their own stories.

Results:

• Generated 1,608 new leads to retarget for talent acquisition

• Content received over 73,802 social media impressions

• Attracted attendees from 10 countries and more than 30 US states

• Created engagement among current internal Kohler Co. associates

During the COVID-19 pandemic, NEWaukee pivoted The Shift to a virtual format while sustaining attendance on-par with pre-pandemic results. NEWaukee also designed and produced further public DEI programs for Kohler Co. called Leading Courageous Conversations.
