Internship Description:

The Communication and Events Intern will assist in the ideation, production, execution, and communication of events through Summer 2020. Responsibilities will include attending staff and sponsor/partner meetings, coordinating event logistics, assisting with setup and breakdown of events, and working the registration table throughout the course of the events. This is a part-time, paid position and we are happy to work around your class schedule.

Candidates Must Have:

  • Prior experience in event production, communications, marketing, public relations or related
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including writing and editing copy
  • Experience with social media management, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Availability to work certain weekends and weeknights
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Transportation to and from events
  • Proficiency in WordPress, Mailchimp (or related email marketing platform), and Google Drive
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage timelines and meet deadlines for multiple projects concurrently
  • Personable demeanor/excellent customer service orientation
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Basic familiarity with graphics software and design preferred but not required

Responsibilities:

 

Events and Programs:

  • Attend sponsor and partner planning meetings prior to event
  • Coordinate reservation of supplies prior to event (tables/chairs, food/beverage, etc.)
  • Oversee cleaning crews and security when applicable
  • Book musicians or performers
  • Assist with event setup and takedown
  • Help with vendor load in / load out
  • Work info table
  • Be on call to help with vendors, sponsors or performers

Communications:

  • Provide support in planning, developing, and delivering communications materials, including:
  • Social media content, website and newsletter copy, and press releases
  • Develop communications calendar for assigned events to ensure timely promotion of program
  • Write and schedule social media content for assigned events
  • Update website content in WordPress as needed
  • Draft newsletters in Mailchimp for assigned events
  • Ensure accuracy in information and proofreading

Weekly Goals:

  • Complete assigned Asana tasks for the week
  • Complete daily FOD’s (facts of the day)

Timeline:

  • January 2nd – August 31st, Average 15–20 hours a week
  • Time split between office hours and event production
