Last week, the NEWaukee team spent a day at The Hive coworking space downtown. It’s always nice to get out of the office and into a different space – a shift in scenery to help us get into a new state of thinking. With five hours and a lot of content to talk through, we got straight to work (well…after the critical team decision to order Cubanitas for lunch, of course.)

With planning for 2019 programs already underway, we decided to take a moment to step back and reflect on the past year. As a small team of hard workers with eyes keenly fixated on the future, we often forget to slow down and look back. Being all together in the same space, we seized the opportunity to look critically and objectively at what we’ve created over the past year and ask – how can we improve? What worked and what didn’t? And, perhaps more importantly, why are we doing what we are doing?

These questions led to conversations about our vision, mission and values – the driving forces behind everything we do. Our mission, simply: to change the way people connect. Our vision: to build an inclusive community, a beacon of belonging that ensures people are fully engaged in all areas of their life: social, civic, and professional. And though our mission and vision hasn’t changed drastically, it was nevertheless a chance to reorient ourselves as a team in a unified direction.

There are so many exciting things to look forward to in 2019 – new programs, new projects, a new website (thanks, Savage Solutions!), and the celebration of our 10th Anniversary as a company. But as the year winds down, we want to pause to say thank you for supporting us.

There are still a few more ways to get involved with NEWaukee before we close the book on 2019. You can join us at our next Social at Glass + Griddle on November 29th, get a Sneak Peek of Crossroads Collective (Milwaukee’s new food hall!) on December 7th, volunteer during our Season of Giving, or sign up to host an Hour of Code. Whether you’ve not yet attended a NEWaukee event, went to one Speaker Crawl a year ago, are an old friend, or anything in-between, we hope we can connect with you soon.

Look out 2019 – NEWaukee is coming for you!
