The Park East Corridor consists of over 60 acres adjacent to the Milwaukee river and functions for many traveling by freeway as the entryway to Milwaukee’s downtown. At the request of many of NEWaukee’s active volunteer base, we approached the City of Milwaukee with the concept of converting one of the dusty, undeveloped lots into a community park that would beautify this area of town. Soon after this conversation began, Associated Bank stepped up to develop a new branch on the corner of McKinley Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr Drive. Working with Rinka Chung Architecture, Associated Bank and NEWaukee’s team designed a public space that will feature Milwaukee’s only public shuffle board park. The collaboration has allowed for a new and active use of public space that previously lay dormant.
