What is your job and its responsibilities?
I’m the owner of Brewtown Recreation, a Sport & Social organization that promotes a healthy lifestyle while establishing a platform to feed your competitive spirit and support local charities in need. Specifically, we offer our athletes the opportunity to participate in seasonal sport leagues and tournaments while playing for charities of their choice. We also host social events and charity fundraisers.
I’m responsible for the business marketing, website design, league administration, facility rentals and participant communication. More importantly, though, I’ve surrounded myself with an amazing team of individuals who have played a key role in building the integrity of our leagues and promoting, what I feel, is the best player experience in town.
What is your favorite Milwaukee event?
We’re spoiled by having a plethora of events to choose from, but my favorite event has always been Brewers Opening Day. Whether it’s the sea of loyal fans flooding the parking lots at 9 am, the nerve-wracking decision of wearing a tank top or snow pants, the lavish tailgating setups or the excitement of witnessing the undefeated Brewers (even for only one game)…what’s not to love?
What is your favorite Milwaukee tradition?
Brewery Tours, they’re a rite of passage in Milwaukee and one of the best ways to entertain family and friends from out of town. In addition, with so many breweries to choose from there’s something for everyone in terms of taste and style. My can’t miss stops are Lakefront Brewery, Milwaukee Brewing Company and Sprecher Brewery.
What is the most effective way to implement change in Milwaukee?
There’s a quote from Lou Holtz that has inspired me for years. “Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.” Life is a series of actions and reactions. I’ve found the best way to implement change is to educate yourself, believe in your approach and surround yourself with people who inspire you to be great. I’ve discovered over the last year that there are many gracious individuals willing to support ideas and develop partnerships with those who are passionate about making Milwaukee a positive destination.
What is the perfect thing to do in Milwaukee on a Sunday afternoon?
A morning stop with my dog at Curry Dog Park, cheering on the GB Packers at a local brunch spot and watching the incredible talent at the Brewtown Recreation Men’s Sunday basketball leagues.
What do you think of Milwaukee as a place to socialize and play?
Milwaukee is an incredibly passionate city, proud of our tradition and our ability to entertain. Our small city feel has never hindered us from throwing big time parties. We’ve got headlining events (Summerfest, Harleyfest, NCAA March Madness), local traditions (Food and Froth, Wing Fest, Milwaukee Brewfest and Wine & Dine), amazing museums, excellent local restaurants and an array of choices for sports enthusiasts (Volleyball at Bradford Beach, Ice Skating at Red Arrow Park, Sailing on Lake Michigan and most importantly, playing Rec Sports with Brewtown Recreation!)
