Nonprofits We Love
At NEWaukee, our mission is to build a beacon of belonging inside the communities and companies we work with. Many people often ask us where they can get involved in community volunteer projects. Here are just a few of our favorite local nonprofits and their volunteer opportunities:
Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin
Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is the leading hunger relief organization in the state, operating food banks in Milwaukee and the Fox Valley. They, along with their network of organizations, provide food to nearly 400,000 people every year. Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities that you can find here.
The Running Rebels Community Organization engages the community, youth, and their families to prevent involvement in gangs, drugs, violence and the juvenile justice system. They also intervene and guide youth by assisting them with making positive choices and coach youth through their transition into adulthood. Running Rebels is currently looking for volunteers in the following areas:
- Community Event Support: Connect with the community by helping manage resource booths and support basketball tournaments.
- Computer Literacy Instructor: Teach high school youth the ins-and-outs of Excel, InDesign, coding and Photoshop.
- Gardening Volunteers: Help plant and maintain their vegetable garden, which is used to teach healthy food education to youth.

And they offer programs that equip people to get off the streets and turn their lives around for good. They offer short- and long-term assistance, education, pastoral care, help in overcoming substance abuse, job training and much more. They address the root causes behind their problems.
United Community Center
United Community Center has been a catalyst for community growth, building, and betterment on Milwaukee’s south side since its founding 50 years ago. What started as a small youth center has grown into an intergenerational safe haven that serves more than 15,000 people each year. UCC serves individuals 6 weeks to 103 years old through educational services, senior support, homebuyer counseling, and much more.

In 2019, Courage MKE opened Wisconsin’s first home for displaced LGBTQ+ youth. Courage MKE believes that in order for youth to work on themselves, they must be able to be themselves. The Courage House is a licensed group home on Milwaukee’s south side committed to creating an environment in which each resident feels like they are a part of the entire Courage MKE family. They assist residents with counseling, life skills, family reunification and provide them the same experiences every child deserves in a family setting. To get involved, click here.
