It’s the summer of pushing through at NEWaukee! Rain was in the forecast for our second Night Market of the summer on July 13, but we decided not to cancel and everything worked out in our favor…except for maybe the grueling heat. Despite the humidity and forecasted rain, there was still a large turnout of people, especially later on in the evening.

Although the event began at 5 p.m., there’s plenty of setup involved to pull off the Night Market. It’s an all day affair for the NEWaukee team, which started with the shutdown of Wisconsin Avenue promptly at noon. There was a weird feeling of power to be able to grab barricades on the side of the street and immediately stop traffic.

Like clockwork, everything else begins. Majic Productions started setting up the lighting and electrical work for the street while NEWaukee set up the bowling alley, drew out the life-size chess board, put up the NKE letters, spray chalked the streets, set out the beer garden tables, set up the NEWaukee information tent and set up the VIP balcony. Then at 3 p.m., it was the vendors’ turn to work their magic, setting up their tents and booths along the street. After a few touch ups and finalizing, it was 5 p.m. and time for the Night Market to begin!

As always, TRUE Skool provided DJ services throughout the night with intermittent performances by Sophia’s Heart and the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. The dance floor in the middle of the Night Market is always popular with dancers and people watchers. Even the smallest children can be seen busting a move and having the time of their lives on the dance floor.

The Night Market would not be complete without a photo opp by the NKE sign, which is always a popular destination on Wisconsin Avenue. This month, we also purchased a Snapchat geofilter that people could use while at the Night Market. It had 355 users and 16,225 views!

Despite the weather, many vendors still saw great success in sales for July’s Night Market! Being a Night Market vendor is a popular topic and was at NEWaukee’s information tent. Unfortunately, all spaces are booked for the remaining 2016 Night Market dates, but you can read this blog post about applying for next year. The application period is open March 1 and closes March 20, 2017.
