Rethinking Engagement for a Member-Based Organization

Challenge

Our client NAIOP Wisconsin, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, was looking for a way to engage their members, break down silos in the Wisconsin real estate and development ecosystem, and confront the negative impact that empty storefronts can have on a community.

Insights

Through research and multiple experience design meetings, NEWaukee created the Empty Storefronts Conference to offer an environment for the local and statewide real estate and developer community to grow relationships, learn best practices from each other, and build strategies to fill empty storefronts.

Solution

Through an immersive, mobile, full day experience, the Empty Storefronts Conference allowed NAIOP to bring together developers, property owners, economic development corporations, architects, Department of Public Works, business improvement districts, neighborhood associations, small business owners, creatives, and brokers to seek new strategic solutions and approaches to securing empty storefronts. Conference sessions are hosted within actual empty storefronts and neighborhoods across the city.

Results

Since 2015, the conference has attracted over 150 attendees each year, featured dozens of available properties and unique developments in both Milwaukee and Madison, showcased over a hundred local, regional, and national practitioners, and attracted support from several high level corporate sponsors.
