NAIOP Wisconsin

Background:

NAIOP Wisconsin is a Chapter of NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association. Founded in 1967, NAIOP has become the leading organization for developers, owners, and investors of office, industrial, retail, multi-family, and mixed-use real estate. The Wisconsin Chapter represents nearly 400 individual members working at more than 150 businesses across Wisconsin.

Engagement Needs:

The NAIOP Wisconsin Executive Director approached NEWaukee to rethink how they engage their members and to break down silos in the Wisconsin real estate and economic development ecosystem.

Key Insights:

NEWaukee held multiple design meetings with key organization members and conducted research on what motivates engagement among NAIOP Wisconsin’s members. Key insights included:

• Members are passionate about policy-driven solutions to local and regional issues in urbanism, such as retail vacancy and highway expansions.

• There are few opportunities for members across commercial real estate, economic development, Department of Public Works, architecture, neighborhood associations, and more to network and commingle.

Here’s What Working with NEWaukee Can Do:

NEWaukee designed the Urban Spaceship Conference (previously known as the Empty Storefronts Conference) to offer an annual opportunity for the local and statewide real estate and developer community to grow relationships, learn best practices from each other, and build new strategies to better their communities. The annual experience is augmented by additional bi-monthly “Urban Spaceship” talks throughout the year that feature a single speaker or panel.

Results:

• Annual conference attracts over 200 members each year
• Dozens of available properties and unique developments featured
• Secured title sponsor and retained sponsorships year-over-year

In 2020, NEWaukee successfully pivoted the Urban Spaceship Conference to a virtual format for members due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
