NEWaukeean: Riva Treasure
Where do you work and what makes your role awesome?
My day job is a mixture of property management, office management and marketing for a family-owned business, Burke Properties. I report directly to the President which is so much fun. I am never punished for making mistakes and am praised for new ideas. On the nights and weekends, you will find me roaming around Milwaukee shooting content for my fashion and lifestyle blog, What Riva Wore.
What do you love most about MKE?
That no matter what time of year it is, there is always a fun event happening. If it isn’t a music festival, there is a bar crawl or a get together showcasing our amazing community. As an ex Irish dancer, I love Irish Fest, but one of my favorite events in Milwaukee is Art in Bloom put on by the Milwaukee Art Museum. What can I say, I love flowers!?
What is your biggest hope for this city?
This would be my pageant answer, less segregation. I find that the statistics define our city and we are not doing much to change them. I would like different community events to be advertised and I know I always get so happy when I see a diverse group of people are local events. We all have something to offer, let’s just stop judging and work and live together!
What neighborhood do you live in and why do you love it?
I just moved to Mequon, I am still dipping my toes in the restaurants and businesses it has to offer, however I lived in Bay View for seven years prior to moving. What I loved about Bay View was the proximity to downtown, the all around vibes and the restaurant/bar scenes are always unique. I also lived in the Historic Third Ward in high school through my early twenties, it’s changed so much since then. I love the mixture of local businesses with national chains. My old parking space is where the Kimpton now stands!
What do you think is going to be a game changer for the city in the year of 2018?
The new Bucks arena! I cannot wait to see what developments and businesses are going to come along with the expansion of the area. Us Wisconsinite’s are loyal sports fans and I wouldn’t expect anything less than welcome arms for this project!
