Where do you work and what makes your role awesome?
I work as the Sales and Marketing Manager for a local parking company called Secure Parking. I love the creative side of marketing and being to initiate creative marketing plans within an industry that is typically not perceived as “creative” or “sexy” is a really cool thing. Applying added value within marketing campaigns in the city of Milwaukee is the best part!
If you could create one thing in MKE, what would it be?
I recently read a book about a research study in Copenhagen on the worlds happiest people. One big take away I got from reading this book was that people within neighborhoods who have a closer knit connection and know their neighbors on a first name basis can reach out for help, ask for an ingredient they were missing out of their cupboard, or maybe a simple tool out of their shed were more happier than people who lived in neighborhoods that do not have this closeness. In my neighborhood and I am sure in many others, we are missing something that links us all together to build trust, collaboration, togetherness, and kindness.
If I could create one thing, it would be a program that creates initiatives to bring together neighborhoods throughout the greater Milwaukee area. One example would be a community garden accessible to neighborhoods, a gathering place to cook together, share recipes, and learn different cooking techniques, or even a garage that one person can open up to neighbors to utilize. From this, I think the local business aspect would continue to grow and thrive as well.
What local restaurant is at the top of your list?
Tough question. The local restaurant business surely is booming in this city and I LOVE that! I think one of my most recent favorite would have to be Interval! The owner of Pilcrow recently opened up a coffee shop with fine dinning option for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The atmosphere is beautiful. If you don’t know, get there now.
What is your biggest hope for this city?
Our city has acquired many different cultures and many different people over time. Having such a “melting pot” gives us ample opportunity of knowledge and growth that we are not taking advantage of. My hope for this city is to embrace the diversity that we have here, move away from segregation, and to learn and grow from each other with open arms.
What does your ideal MKE weekend look like?
Restaurant and brewery hopping. I love experiencing all the new and hidden foodie gem spots in the city. When my boyfriend and I are not doing that, we are relaxing at home with a home cooked meal. When we are in the summer months, I love to tend to our garden and make fresh, healthy bites to nosh on!
